After a nearly seven-week gap in its release cadence, OpenClaw has shipped version 2.0 — a single update carrying roughly half of all pull requests ever merged into the project, touching nearly every layer of the system from installation to security.
OpenClaw 2.0 touches installation, messaging, memory, skills, models, automations, browser and native apps, plugins, security, and bug fixes — described by the project as the largest update in its history.
The release was built by 933 contributors, 569 of whom were contributing for the first time, and contains more than 16,000 pull requests — roughly half of all pull requests ever merged into the project.
First-time installations can now connect through existing ChatGPT or Claude subscriptions, existing API keys, or local models, widening the paths into the system.
The browser app has been rebuilt to open directly into a conversation with the user's Claw.
Shared cloud sessions now let team members join live work sessions with context intact.
Developers and teams already running OpenClaw who want to evaluate a major version jump before upgrading production setups.
New users deciding between subscription-based access, API keys, or local models as an entry point.
Teams that want to collaborate on agent sessions together rather than working in isolated instances.
Anyone evaluating semi-autonomous agents who wants to weigh the security tradeoffs before granting broad system access.
OpenClaw is open source, so you can install version 2.0 directly from the project. New installs support three paths in: connect an existing ChatGPT or Claude subscription, plug in an existing API key, or run local models — no need to commit to a single provider before you start. Existing users upgrading should expect changes across installation, messaging, memory, skills, and plugins, so review the release notes for your specific setup before updating a production instance.
